Manhunt 2 News | Nintendo UK speaks on Manhunt 2. | 12 Feb 2007 14:01 pm

Nintendo UK have released a statement on Manhunt 2 due to concerns minors would be able to play the game on it's console, this coming off the back of the announcement made to gamepolitics on Friday.

Ign have the article up with quotes from a UK spokesperson.

"Nintendo has called for parents and retailers to be aware of age ratings when buying or selling mature-rated games."

"All games for the Nintendo platforms are rated by the responsible authorities to ensure that minors are not exposed to games that are unsuitable for their particular age group and we want to emphasise the need for all users, especially parents and retailers, to be aware of the appropriate age rating before selling or buying a game."

"He went on to say parents concerned about children gaining access to inappropriate games should "utilise the PIN-operated Parental Control features built into Wii".

It is pretty much the same announcement as before and it looks like Nintendo will back Manhunt 2 all the way.

Manhunt 2 News | Nintendo Speaks To Gamepolitics | 10 Feb 2007 11:20 am

Gamepolitics recently asked Nintendo for a statement regarding licensing Manhunt 2 on the Wii, due to them having a long time reputation as a family friendly games company. Nintendo were tight lipped about the situation Beth Llewelyn, Sr. Director of Corporate Communications responded with Manhunt 2 is not developed or published by Nintendo, she also stated that this game like many of their other third party titles appeal to people of all ages and interests. Nintendo finished up by adding that they encourage people who are concerned about kids having access to inappropriate Wii games to use Nintendo's built in PIN operated Parental Control features, anyone concerned about buying Manhunt 2 with kids at home should breath a sign of relief right about now. Here is the statement in full from Gamepolitics.

Manhunt 2 is not developed or published by Nintendo. It is one of many titles released by third party publishers for our system that appeal to people of all ages and interests. Just as with movies, television, and books, different video games appeal to - and are appropriate for - different audiences.
Video game retailers and purchasers are strongly encouraged to follow the age-specific ESRB ratings when considering what software to sell or buy. If parents are concerned about kids having access to inappropriate Wii games, we encourage them to utilize the PIN-operated Parental Control features built into Wii.

GamePolitics went on to say that they believe you will be able to slash someone's neck with a glass shard by a simple left or right motion on the Wii controller while holding the B button down. If this were true then this time around we would need to have interactive executions that were timed giving you something like 30 seconds to make all the motions with the Wii controller before viewing the full execution. Mortal Kombat: Armageddon on the Wii has already made use of the Wii controller for this very purpose, where snapping someones neck or cutting an arm or leg off in an execution is a simple flick in the desired direction.

Manhunt 2 News | Jurie Horneman Manhunt 2 Post. | 09 Feb 2007 17:27 pm

Jurie Horneman has updated his blog with a link to Manhunt 2's website, and the message "Oh look, a new game from Rockstar Games." you may remember back in May last year, when Rockstar Vienna closed, we said that Jurie was rumoured to be working on Manhunt 2 but requests on conformation led to us being told he couldn't give us any information we thought at the time he may still have had a contract with Rockstar. Well it now turns out this information about Jurie working on Manhunt 2 was perhaps true and it would seem he did some level scripting (rumoured), this would seem to confirm once and for all that Rockstar Vienna was working on Manhunt 2 before being closed. Here are some comments from the blog.

"I bet this has some really nice level scripting."

"Hey Jurie, At least it's coming out. Having worked on it as well (the cutscenes), I am happy that it is...albeit later than planned. It would have been a bigger shame had they just scrapped the project completely.I think the biggest shock is that it's being released on Wii. I am just surprised that Nintendo would let a game with that kind of content pass submission."

The fact that the comment poster who worked on the game is shock that it's on the Nintendo Wii proves that it wasn't planned and seems to have been a last minute thing since the Wii only came out in November/December and last we heard Reggie was talking to Rockstar in December to bring GTA to the Wii. This could be the reason for the delay as a whole and a result of listening to the fans both here and on other message boards who asked for a Nintendo Wii version also in December you may remember we made a plea to Rockstar to bring Manhunt 2 out on the Wii.

Manhunt 2 News | IGN Manhunt 2 Podcast | 09 Feb 2007 14:20 pm

In IGNs latest podcast they discuss Manhunt 2 on the Wii.

“Really? Manhunt 2? On the Wii? Are you sure? You know that game is really violent, right? Like, super violent. As in, it makes us feel like bad people when we play it. And it's coming to the Wii? Really?”

In the pod cast they express concern over how long the game has been in development and they also say that the CEO of NOA, Reggie Fils-Aime met with Rockstar before E3 last year and supplied them with 30 development kits and that they were one of the first batch of developers to receive dev-kits, that is a pretty interesting fact, if it is true that is.

Manhunt 2 News | Insight into Manhunt 2 by Gamesradar | 09 Feb 2007 13:05 pm

Games Radar.com offers some good insight into Manhunt 2 giving their impressions and ideas on the trailer and plot, they have quoted what most people on the forums have already figured out, that one line in the trailer is from Shakespeare's The Tempest the line in question appears near the end of the trailer and reads "What seest thou else in the dark backward and abysm of time?".

GamesRadar believe the goal of the game will be to escape from the laboratory where Dr. Whyte has been brainwashing you for several years, they even go as far as to say they believe you will end up killing your family as a result of the brainwashing. They finally finish up by saying that Rockstar is one of the few developers that really know how to "build and unfold a complex and challenging plot". Here are some interesting parts from the article.

As the images continue to flicker and fade, a menacing voice proclaims: "What seest thou else in the dark backward and abysm of time?". This odd, almost incomprehensible phrase is actually a direct quote - from Shakespeare's The Tempest.

The Tempest initially focuses on two characters - Prospero (the play's wise but flawed nobleman, exiled on an island) and his daughter, Miranda. Both have lived on a deserted island for 12 years, and Miranda has never known anyone but her father. As a result he has been able to construct her entire reality, by manipulating her mind. He is, in effect, her creator. The quote comes when Prospero quizzes Miranda about faint memories she has from her past before they were banished.

Dr. Whyte has perhaps even used you as a mindless slave to do his dirty work for him - echoing another character from The Tempest, the abused and vicious animal-man-thing, Caliban.
